Registered Veterinary Nurse Role

The opportunity to join or amazing team here at Knutsford Veterinary Surgery

Registered Veterinary Nurse

Full-Time (4-Day Week) • Knutsford, Cheshire • No Out-of-Hours

At Knutsford Veterinary Surgery, our nurses are clinicians — not just a pair of hands on a rota. As a family-owned independent practice, we make decisions based on what’s right for our patients and our team, not what’s convenient for a head office.  That means a genuine say in how you work, clinical variety that keeps you engaged, and the kind of professional relationships that are only possible when you’re known as an individual.

We’re looking for an experienced, vocationally-driven RVN to join our established team of six. If you want a role where your skills are fully utilised, your development is actively supported, and you’re valued as a professional — and where a four-day work week and no out-of-hours means you can sustain that commitment for the long term — we’d love to hear from you.

The Role:

This is a full-time position built around a four-day working week, because we believe exceptional nursing and a fulfilling personal life go hand in hand. You’ll work 1:4 Saturday mornings, and there is no out-of-hours commitment.

Day to day, you’ll work alongside our vets and visiting specialists on a clinically rich and genuinely varied caseload. That means:

  • Preparing and monitoring anaesthetics for a wide range of procedures — from routine dentals and keyhole (laparoscopic) spays to soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, including TPLO
  • Assisting with specialist-level work in ophthalmology, dermatology, rhinoscopy, cystoscopy and video otoscopy
  • Running nurse clinics and managing inpatients with genuine clinical ownership from admission to discharge
  • Performing and interpreting diagnostic imaging and in-house laboratory work using our comprehensive IDEXX platform

We take nursing seriously here. Our nurses are central to how this practice operates, and we actively encourage everyone to work to the full breadth of their scope of practice. Whether you have a clinical interest you’d like to develop — anaesthesia, dentistry, ophthalmology, or something else — we want to hear about it and support it.

We are keen to hear from nurses with at least three years of post-qualification experience in small animal practice. That said, your attitude matters just as much as your experience: we are looking for someone who takes genuine pride in their work, brings curiosity and warmth to the team, and cares deeply about the animals and clients in their care.

About Us:

Founded in 2014 by Paul and Charlie Adams, Knutsford Veterinary Surgery has grown into one of Cheshire’s leading independent practices.  We recently completed a major extension and renovation designed around the needs of patients and staff alike.

Our facilities include:

  • Two dedicated surgical theatres for soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures
  • Comprehensive IDEXX in-house laboratory, digital and dental radiography, and ultrasound
  • Laparoscopic suite for keyhole procedures
  • Isolation and chemotherapy ward
  • Dedicated quiet cat pods in a bright, modern waiting area — nothing like a traditional veterinary waiting room

Our vets hold postgraduate certificates in ophthalmology (Paul Adams) and dermatology (Rachel Caines), and we perform specialist-level procedures including TPLO, corneal grafting and keyhole surgery in-house.

We hold RCVS Small Animal Practice Accreditation, are a Gold Cat Friendly Practice, a Dog Friendly Clinic, and are recognised by the Canine Arthritis Management programme.

We’re also a practice that takes its wider responsibilities seriously.  Our building runs on rooftop solar with heat-recovery ventilation; we use reusable sterilisation containers and surgical gowns, operate low-flow anaesthesia protocols, and practise responsible antimicrobial stewardship.  We are actively working towards the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme Environmental Sustainability merit.

Hear From The Team:

“I joined the team in 2023, and what immediately stood out was how clinically involved the nursing role is here.  No two days are the same — one morning you might be monitoring an orthopaedic procedure, the next you’re running diagnostics alongside the ophthalmology consult or assisting with a rhinoscopy. The facilities are exceptional, the team is genuinely brilliant, and there’s real support to develop your own clinical interests.  I’m currently studying for my ISFM feline nursing certificate and the practice has been completely behind that from day one.”
