About Samantha

Tell us a bit about you

Hi, I’m Sam! I’m your short, chatty, blonde receptionist.  I started working at Knutsford Vets in 2021.  Before this, I worked as an ecologist in Scotland and later at a doggy day care in Stockport.  I wanted to move into a role where I could be more directly involved in helping care for animals… and, honestly, the idea of working indoors was pretty exciting too!

What are your qualifications and Interests?

I have a Degree in Marine Biology and Zoology, which doesn’t help me too much in my reception role; however, I have received a silver award in Veterinary Client Care.  I really enjoy my reception role.  I have specialised in animal travel and have become the one to talk to if you plan on travelling abroad with your pet!

What pets do you have?

I have a dog, Satsuki, who is a rescue from Romania, 2 rescue cats, Howl and Arrietty, a gargoyle gecko called Twig and around 20,000 – 80,000 bees in my back garden.

What’s your dream Holiday/travel location?

I have been fortunate enough to travel to South Africa for a Safari honeymoon (Namibia was my favourite place to visit).  I also have been to Iceland to go whale watching, anything animal or nature related.  My next dream holiday would probably be New Zealand.

What’s your favourite wild animal?

I have always loved Manatees; they are a very odd (and to some people, ugly) marine mammal who live in Florida.  They are the reason I did my Marine Biology degree, and I was fortunate to be able to focus my dissertation study on them.

What is your favourite thing about Knutsford?

I think Tatton Park is always a firm favourite.  However, I am a sucker for good food and drink, so the number of amazing restaurants and bars is really appreciated (e.g. Mowgli, The Tea Room, Dexter & Jones)

What do you enjoy outside of work?

I still spend a lot of my free time outside, I freely choose to venture underground in caves and mines, and I volunteer for Derbyshire Cave Rescue.  I am a member of the British Beekeepers Association and tend to my hives in my garden.  When indoors, I like to bake, sew, crochet, play video games and play Dungeons and Dragons.  I love photography, recently I have been helping with historical re-enactments and events, photographing everything from Medieval Jousting to the Battle of Waterloo.  Most of my weekends involve something a bit weird!
